The beginning…
Moneytree opened its first branch on October 31st, 1983 in Renton, Washington.  Owners Dennis Bassford, Dave Bassford and Sara Bassford ran the entire business!  Not only were they tellers and managers, but also the payment center staff.  The trio served customers, completed the daily accounting, and cleaned the store and parking lot.  They were also the ones responsible for collecting any checks that were returned unpaid by the bank.

Moneytree opened its second store in 1985. This branch, located on Fairview Avenue in Boise, Idaho, started offering payday loans in 1988.  For the next six years, Moneytree opened one or two stores every 12 to 18 months, growing slowly and steadily.  In late 1994, the number of Moneytree stores in Washington and Idaho began to grow at a much faster pace.  Moneytree expanded into California in 1998, into Nevada in 1999 and into Colorado in 2003! 

We’ve added several other services since Dennis, Dave and Sara cashed that first check back in 1983. Today, we’re proud to offer our customers check cashing services, payday loans, money orders, fax services, Western Union wire transfers and the Cash Solution prepaid debit card and prepaid Visa^®.  In addition, we sell postage stamps and pre-paid gift and phone cards.  At some locations, we have Cointree^® coin counting machines.
